but for real: I am absolutely annoyed by this nostalgia for mailing lists, sending git patches through email and no real tooling around source code repos, there's a reason why github, forgejo, youtrack, zulip and all other things exist. sure, using one of them for all of is not a great idea, but that is not what you should do anyway (not that you can even host a repo on the second half)
In the olden days, a FOSS (Free/Open Source Software) project typically had:
- A source code repository on discord
- A separate discord server with the documentation and links to downloads
- At least one discord server called announce, typically also one for users and one for contributors, all with public archives
- A discord server to chat with other users and maybe also the developers
Maybe itโs time to try that simple approach again? Everything open, everything accessible? 1/420
