okay it could also be because i live in a particularly compact and dense city which is very much approximately a 5x5km square (but also not a square but you get the idea) where i can spend just one hour walking from one edge to the other and makes me really annoyed when there's a single district that is this big and is just single family housing but eugh
i really don't see what people see in dropping single family housing everywhere but it's more compact than in US but it's still single family housing and it wastes a lot of space and it makes for annoying walks and aaaaaa
i am very much a fan of polish commie era planning unironically, well, maybe just the district planning because road planning is atrocious (plac społeczny in wrocław ) every district in itself had a relatively central square where you had stores and all that but the thing about them is, because it was all just commieblocks, it wasn't a huge landwaste where that square was serving a 4x4km district, but more like 1x1km
also at some point they started to build supermarkets anyway but it's not like you would buy anything in there right
yes i have a bit of a love-hate relationship with netherlands, some city planning decisions are absolutely beyond me and make me mad, other are great i hate how drinks are 330ml for some reason and not 500ml, but then chips are fucking 300g it'd be absolutely great to have this much train connections possible but also it's a too costly lol? and some destinations take absolutely too long by public transport like taking 4.5 hours and multiple weird connections for 220km distance what the fuck
„but you are supposed to bike” oh, yea? what if i can't bike huh (for the record, i can, but i still prefer having the freedom of just being able to walk instead of having to worry about a bike)
like, city centres are just big malls but maybe not indoors (check if not zoetermeer, seriously, what the fuck) maybe one plot with shops on it in 2km radius instead of spreading them out is not the greatest idea yknow
