Politics is basically about how people interact with each other and honestly nothing can really be apolitical. Best example of this is communities that have "no politics" rules which are always only comfortable for the people privileged enough to not have to care about politics.
Scientists are people too and despite many trying to avoid biases, it can be difficult.
And then there's also "research" that was just basically bought by someone and published by corrupt scientists. IIRC that was the case with the "vaccines cause autism" study that was debunked multiple times afterwards.
