I wish video was more like podcasts! I constantly see creators either being burned out, scared, willing to participate in bad behavior or causing outrage because of YouTube's model. I very happily read every PeerTube update even if I personally don't use it yet and have nothing to post there. I'm really hoping it takes off during this federation renaissance

@duc Ha, I don't podcast, I'm not a millennial :blobCat_melting: I do know some have ads, some get a share off of streaming platforms, some sell merch or accept donations, and some depend on subscriptions like the ones under Standard/Nebula

@luna i see, i was asking, cause if videos were to switch to an RSS-like model, everything would change a bit
i guess the biggest issue rn is that the viewers are basically on one platform (nebula and similar stuff are a small, negligible exception)

@duc It'd certainly be a huge change I don't think would happen overnight but I don't think it's impossible. For most video creators, YouTube monetization isn't the main source of money, because it can't be, it's ridiculously unstable and shrinking. They make money through sponsorships, merch, and donations. I'm not sure how podcast ads work exactly, but they might be an even better source of revenue, as if an agency reaches out to you they probably wouldn't "demonetize" an episode
