privacy meta, matrix.archive.org Damn, why is it so hard to tell the difference between "OK" and "super creepy" w.r.t online scraping and indexing?

There's no way it would not be considered creepy to record all conversations taking place in public spaces in real life, indexing it, and putting it on archive.org... But doing the same to all chat messages posted in public spaces? come on..

privacy meta, matrix.archive.org @rune@gts.fedi.tax i think this is part of what is supposed to be the big difference between forums and chatrooms (forums being a very public thing, chatrooms being private), but then people started using discord as a forum equivalent and the line got very blurry

privacy meta, matrix.archive.org @duc I hadn't considered that. From that frame it does seem more complicated.

Although, my despite for that kind of setup is probably why I didn't consider it.
