They are mostly Americans stuck between three reality universes, which are:
1. „Here in America, the land of Freedom(TM), we don't even have passenger railways.”
2. „Here in Western Europe we have built high-speed infrastructure, but also removed the entire network of middle-speed, cheap overnight connections”
3. „Here in Eastern Europe we've created the social habit of long-distance night train travelling during the Soviet times, but capitalism fucked everything”
I'd love to see EuroNight brand reappearing as cheap way of travelling in Europe. However, what can I say when comparing:
- flying between Katowice and Eindhoven (hatred, but only 300 PLN return ticket) - Katowice - Wien Hbf - NJ to Amsterdam (I'd love and prefer to travel this way, but >500 PLN one way...)
Essentially, we must repair EuroCity and EN network, then ban planes inside EU. Normalize overnight trains from Warsaw to Lisbon.
@Nepose tbf most of the ones I get are Bri*ish and they sound as ridiculous the NJ to Amsterdam can be cheap sometimes, I got very lucky and got a 29.90€ sitting coach ticket from Vienna to Amsterdam, but yeah, if you want to get a couchette or sleeping car, you need that ridiculously expensive ticket and like, man
@jeder doing Wrocław - Amsterdam with one change, I guess, might be either IC + ICE or IC + that new European Sleeper service. I'd check it in free time.
Wow with finding Vienna - Amsterdam in such a low price. However, I'm not sure how bad one could feel after a couple of hours trying to sleep on a basic seat. Another problem is that Sparschiene tickets have limited pool of couchette and sleepers. In most cases you can select only standard place in a seating car with promo offer.
@Nepose actually it's neither of them, IC+direct Berlin-Amsterdam IC, I tried to sleep in that nightjet but it wasn't a great idea, I was able to get a couchette in Wrocław-Vienna for like 40€ or whatever as sparschiene once even a month in advance, those trains from the screenshot also still have couchettes and sleeping cars in sparschiene, so yeah
@jeder oh, okay. For some reason I thought that the Berlin - Amsterdam route is served by ICEs, but nice to know that it's not exactly the case :>
When it comes to the case of Wrocław and Nightjets, one mention: be aware that since new 2023/24 timetable NJ Berlin – Vienna will be restored to its standard route via Praha. No early morning train to Berlin, but as far as I know, there will be replacement done by another new pair of Przemyśl - Berlin connections.
@Nepose i am very well aware of that situation, was already looking at possible alternatives to Vienna, such as going through Lichkov with a bunch of transfers, I really wish Wrocław had more international trains
@jeder I agree, Wrocław should have densier network of international connections. Not only is the city located close to two border areas with Germany and Czechia, as well as to the metropolitan transit hubs of Katowice and Krakow, but also due to current policy of Lower Silesia authorities more and more smaller towns are becoming reonnected by railway.
Sometimes I feel extremely nostalgic when seeing older timetables. Here is the case of daily through coaches Wrocław – Kyiv and occassional Wrocław – Odesa. Not to mention Praha hl.n. – Warszawa via Lichkov, Wrocław and Łódź... Ah, 15 years ago...
