So there's actually a big problem with local-only posts federating out to other *key instances atm. I can confirm that folks on #Firefish social have been able to view and reply to local-only channel posts here on #blahajzone where we use #Hajkey still on #Calckey v14. Can also confirm that I can see local only posts on FF social made 6 days ago. I'm able to see a local only post of @jeder posted on #Iceshrimp when in guest mode, but won't get it in when I place url in search. Also local-only posts on #Misskey can be seen by Iceshrimp and Hajkey users, so assume that FF too. Please don't post anything local-only atm that you don't want to be discoverable. What a mess.
@ada So far it seems, as per @testing replies, that I can't see or reply locally from within blahaj.zone but that doesn't explain why Maikel's post was replied to, unless it was set to something other than local first then visibility changed and didn't federate. @nisemikol posts indicates that their local-only in-channel posts were seen in timeline & @jeder tells me in matrix that they saw Maikel's post in their timeline yesterday with no indication that it was local and posted to a channel.
@jo@testing@nisemikol@jeder Maikels post is possibly explained by a few things. We had to tinker with that account in the backend to reactivate it after he migrated away. It's possible that has broken something.
What I'm trying to work out is whether or not there are other instances of local only content actively federating aside from that account, as that will help narrow down what's going on.
@ada@jo@testing@nisemikol all i can say is that scope edits are fucked, you can post federating content and edit it to be lower scope or local-only, and in case of making it local-only, OP will still federate, with updates visible but idk if it stops, and you can reply to it from remote instances, and with scopes, you can make a public post a dm, but it will not send any updates and so you'll have an original version of the post federate
@jeder i tried this from my alt acc at iceshrimp.social and edited like hell, but it did not work - none of my local-only posts federated @ada@jo@nisemikol
@testing@ada@jo@nisemikol because they will not, however if you post a non-local-only note and make it local-only, it will still federate because scope changes do not federate, and so local-only change also doesn't, i have checked how mastodon deals with this and they do not allow scope changes on edit at all, so you need to delete & re-draft instead
