what have i just spent the past 2 hours doing

my dns server is probably not very properly setup, but it technically works, i have redefined .fox to be under my own control in this very niche situation of 1 very specific dns server
screenshot of the dig command requesting "nic.fox" the answer is not the same answer that anybody else running the same command would get, as the answer originates from a dns server that has rejected the official ICANN definition of the .fox tld, and has claimed control of it for itself, sending its own response, which in this case just points to my own server "stelle.tela.moe"

technically anybody could query this dns server, considering i just gave everyone the IP address by posting this, though the only thing you'd see on the domain is the caddy placeholder page

i can tell you i am very probably not the right person to run a reclaimed .fox tld ​:hehehe:​

i have no idea what i'm doing with DNS

okay i think i'll just turn it off now, because i don't think i trust myself enough with dns

gotta admit, the concept of having .fox domains does look nice though makes me yearn for more
screenshot of the address bar showing the domain "fedi.fox" which sadly is not a real domain (not unless either the corporation hogging the whole tld gives it up, or a non-standard authority for it takes root)

what if we made a small niche protocol akin to a slightly more advanced gemini where an alternate dns root is the default

that way we can have .fox domains without the pain of trying to integrate it with existing systems cause then the protocol libraries would just handle the resolving on the alternate dns
