why do my mastodon post filters not work

i have a simple filter set up with two words that indicate a triggering topic, yet i still see posts containing one of those words in both their cw and the post itself when someone boosts it into my timeline. can someone, uhh, fix this please????

@stella is your filter "bad word" or "bad" and "word"?

Sorry for the dumb question, just want to check since if it is the first, it will only filter on both words in that order

@david this is the setup. both keyword entries are a single word each

@stella could you try switching to "whole word" on them and see if that helps? That's how I have all of my filters set

@david that seems to work in that i cant find the post in my timeline anymore. i can still find it by pasting the link into the search bar, but i guess thats intentional.

still fucking weird that it doesnt work without that box checked

@stella I'm glad that it helped! I honestly don't know why it works like that, but I haven't dug into the code to see what the query looks like

@david UPDATE: a second post has hit the timeline

this time the filtered word is only in the CW, but i definitely do think that should be filtered as well - after all, the mere reminder of its existence can trigger me, so having a cw contain the word with no way to hide it from my feed is useless. someone please do something about this

@stella @david especially since... it's often the cw that has mention of certain triggers that beings would mute
