All Europeans can relate to there being construction work and they find either a) an unexploded WWII bomb, b) the remains of some ancient civilisation, or c) a long-dead monarch.

@jeder @yassie_j Gothic epitaph slab of Swidnik mayor Weigilmann
A Gothic epitaph found in 2019 in the courtyard of an apartment building at 18 Grodzka Street, where it was used secondarily for a slab covering a medieval well. It is presumed that it was originally displayed in Świdnica's Franciscan Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Forest" or in the monastery's cemetery. This Franciscan monastery establishment, which no longer exists, occupied almost the entire area between what is now Franciszkańska Street and Maria Konopnicka Street.
The epitaph was made of granite and bears a simple inscription, carved in majuscule, containing only the name of the deceased: "Weigilmann." It commemorated the figure of the Swidnik patrician Weigilmann, or Weigmann de Rodstok, also mentioned in sources as Wigelo de Rodestock. The nickname "de Rodestock" indicates that he, or his ancestors, came from Roztoka.

Weigilmann belonged to the richest stratum of Swidnik society during the reign of Prince Bolek II the Lesser of Swidnica and Jawor. He also held the most important offices in the city several times; in 1345-1346 and 1351-1352 he was a city councilor, while in 1354-1355 he was mayor of Świdnica. Weigilmann certainly enjoyed the duke's confidence, as evidenced by the fact that in 1352 Bolko II entrusted him with the extremely important mission of sending a letter to Apostolic Nuncio Arnold de Caucina, then residing in Cracow, regarding the holy pecuniary payments to be made from the Świdnica principality. It should be mentioned that Weigilmann de Rodestock is mentioned in 1346 in historical sources together with his wife Elisabeth, son Hanko and "other children" as a landowner and heir to Bystrzyca Polska (now Bystrzyca Dolna), a village located near Świdnica.

@jeder @yassie_j It is worth noting that the Gothic epitaph of Mayor Weigilmann exhibited here, which should be dated approximately to 1355, is the oldest surviving Christian tombstone known from the Świdnica area. Along with the oldest known epitaph from Szprotawa, which dates to 1316, it is also one of the oldest objects of sepulchral art in all of Silesia. Renovated through the efforts of the Municipality of Świdnica in 2023, it is now once again on display near the spot where it originally marked the burial place of Świdnica's mayor Weigilmann de Rodestock.Sobiesław Nowotny
