It's weird how some people just refuse to acknowledge gender of pets. And it's not because they have complex ideas about gender and consent, it's the same people who don't really understand what it means to not be cis.

@duc well, it's fairly normal to refer to a pet with "it" until the owner uses some pronouns for their pet, but then to continue using "it" just seems like refusing "personhood" of the pet. I guess the language is fairly human centric, but my point is more it seems like a distancing move than any actual stance on pronouns other than "animals don't get them"

@rune ah hmm i see. idk i generally use they for pets, since they really don’t have that same concept about gender as we do, so even if the owner uses certain pronouns, that doesn’t mean anything.

@duc that's fair, in English it works but I've found it doesn't really work in Danish. "it" has pretty much exactly the same feel, but "they" is very loaded towards being either plural or way too polite to address a pet in Danish.

@rune @duc fair, in hungarian, "they" is like the only creature pronoun to exist, so it's a non-issue in that regard. (other instance not loading :blobcat_flop_woozy: )
