i do not understand people who criticise gnome for not being set up exactly the way they like it by default and refusing to admit that extensions are a supported, official, encouraged way to add functionality and modify behaviour

if gnome didn’t want you to modify the desktop to the way you like, why would they even let you install extensions? why would gnome host an extensions repository? why would gnome
just recently revamp the format to make it easier to make them? why would gnome willingly take the gnome tweaks and gnome extensions apps under the gnome umbrella?

@nano they would stop breaking them on every update first if they really support extensions

@jeder they dont break EVERY update, and the reason for the breakage is because the api and the format changes and gets improved to make it easier and faster to make extensions. in gnome 45 the whole thing was revamped and its probably going to stay this way for the foreseeable future

@nano if it's so easy and fast, why is updating them not so easy and fast

@nano my experience with gnome is that EVERY single update, some crucial for my workflow extension gets knocked down for at least a month, that's not what i'd call stable and normal experience, if i have to rely on an extension that should already be a thing, like, a clipboard manager, or something that is a matching interface for kde connect

@nano not to mention having to manually force extension to update when it breaks after gnome update, for some reason, how is that normal and stable
