There used to be a tv show called scrap heap challenge, they probably stopped making it before I was born, but the idea was they'd bring 2 teams into a scrap yard and say "you have to build a vehicle that (Theme)," and it would be like, "is steam powered," or "is amphibious," or "can complete this specific obstacle course," and they'd just go out and explore and grab the scrap (most of it was planted there obviously,) and build their vehicle over the course of a day and then race them against eachother, and like, that show is where 90% of my interests came from.
