@duc That's worse than the american date format, the most important data to the user should always be presented first. Should only be used to avoid confusion

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @luna what!!!
no. ymd is the best format. it's consistent with how we use other units. you don't see ss
:mm:hh being used.

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @duc Because hours are more important to the user than seconds. Your eyes shouldn't need to glance over the year to get to the important part for 365 days each year

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @duc YMD ruins readability by polluting the part eyes read first with useless information

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @luna but official units shouldn't follow what's more "important" to the user imo. plus, i can look both to the right and to the left depending on what format i expect. i don't see why the year being on either side makes it easier. (in fact, if the year is on the left in the current state of things, i know it's ymd, otherwise it's 50/50)
plus, you can just use ymd officially and if you want, still do like "12-13, 2023" i guess? or like "dec. 13, 2023". users shouldn't depend on more formal/official date formats.

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @duc It is useful because americans are backwards, but it is objectively a really bad date format and shouldn't have to exist

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @luna but if with most measurements we go little to big, it is inconsistent.
and i don't think the readability is bad, even for "today's date". and if you go even a few years back, the year does become the most important part.

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @duc You look at dates a few years back much less, it's readable enough for that purpose. I don't think many things go big to little specifically, measurements rarely have a specific order, big endian is more of a computing thing. Considering endianness defines significance rather than size, I don't think it would even be a stretch to call DMY big-endian if the term applied to day-to-day usage rather than computing

date format discourse in a light-hearted fashion @duc People usually order things most significant to least significant so it fits right in. I really don't see an inconsistency
