me looking at the migration pages for iceshrimp and sharkey:

iceshrimp: kinda frustratingly vague? what is a "migration", how will i know when i've reverted the right ones, and also what the hell does "Build and run migrations using your preferred method." mean
:frostbite_cry:

sharkey: WHY ARE THERE ONLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOCKER i don't use docker at all bro tf am i meant to do then
:frostbite_sweat:

i don't know which one i'm gonna pick still since the current votes are leaning toward iceshrimp while sharkey has features i know some people will like having
however i just know i'm finna be suffering in a couple days with this migration no matter which one i pick 😭😭😭

@frost henlo i am the person responsible for that iceshrimp doc clusterfuck
anyway:
migration in sense of the guide is a database operation that prepares it for new changes done in code, and you revert these, you'll know that you have reverted enough because name of the migration will show up

"Build and run migrations using your preferred method" refers to following docker/normal install guide from that point

:anyway: i will make it clearer soon

@jeder okay here are a bunch of questions cause i wanna make sure when i do this i do it right and dont like implode my server.
sorry they might be kind of stupid but that's cause i am also kind of stupid
:frostbite_confused:

1) im guessing i need to switch the git to pull from iceshrimp but not sure how/when i do it
im guessing that i should run
git remote set-url origin https://iceshrimp.dev/iceshrimp/iceshrimp.git
git fetch
git checkout v2023.12.1

but should i do that
before or after reverting the firefish migrations?

2) does build and run migrations just mean "do the build step (yarn build), and then the first migration step (yarn run init)" or does it mean "start from the build step and continue following all the way down"

3) since im migrating do i need to create a database or do i just give it the same details that Firefish already has? guessing it's the latter but just wanna make sure

4) do i need to edit the nginx config at all? im guessing not cause it looks pretty identical to the FF one, but just making sure

5) right now the service used to start firefish is set up like:
ExecStart=/usr/bin/npm start
WorkingDirectory=/home/calckey/calckey

would replacing the ExecStart with
/usr/bin/yarn start be enough for it to work?

i think those five questions would be enough for me to figure it out on my own afterward, sorry for having to ask so many this is just a bit of a scary operation

@frost

1) you should do that after reverting, however I think you might have an easier time by cloning repo to a new directory (with git-lfs installed before cloning) and copying config to there, because there's git-lfs fuckery i don't understand right now but I might be wrong and it's just me being all over the place

2) you do Installing project dependencies, (maybe) Optimizing database performance and Updating Iceshrimp without any
git stash commands

3) you don't need to create any new database

4) nope

5) yes
