UK politics, NI, post-Brexit WTF The Government is planning on enacting laws that would harmonise legislation between Great Britain and Northern Ireland in terms of trade.

Here’s the thing: to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland, the UK has established that NI will exist within the EU’s customs union.

So… To avoid divergence between GB and NI, the UK will now follow EU law.

A marvellous benefit of leaving the EU is that we… Now have to follow the EU?

There is, of course, an upside to this. Because this means the UK will implicitly align with the EU on trade, this is seen as a betrayal by Rishi Sunak of a Brexit freedom (which is an illusion, but that’s besides the point).

This has now, effectively, caused a massive split
within the Government itself, not just the Conservatives as a whole, meaning that Sunak is now facing a huge revolt within his Cabinet, thus making the party look even worse.
