Realization creeping upon me that I have a month + a week of time left to migrate my Matrix server away from EMS.

Technically speaking, the migration is easy...

...I need to kill EVERY single connection I ever made with someone else (just leaving the rooms) and then I get a server at another hosting provider with the same domain.

good old "writing a list of handles that I need to reconnect with" like in the olden days.

And have friends re-invite me to spaces that I have been part of.

@jeder I can export the entire server but I talked with providers and they said it's not worth the effort and potential breakage with the keys.

@pixel it basically just gets access to both of your accounts and old account invites new one

@jeder well, I want to keep my domain, I just need to migrate the server beneath it.

so user migration won't even work because downtime is involved and by then the old server is not reachable anymore.

@jeder yeah, it sucks

I could migrate the entire server, since EMS has full exports, but as said, providers basically say it's not worth the effort and cleanly separating connections is a good enough preparation for a server "migration".

@jeder frankly I'm mostly disappointed/annoyed that EMS stops providing hosting to non-business scale users

I specifically went for EMS because even if it's pricier, I'm at the best point of trust if I host with the developers directly.

But yeah, that aged well...
