Am I the only person who thinks that any headphones with active noise cancelling just sound really bad?

I mean yes but this technology always really distorts and compresses the music you're trying to listen to.

I feel like my music sounds better with any potential background noise than with no background noise and ANC turned on. So what's the point of these gimmicks?

@SuperDicq you do not get anc headphones for music quality, but for, well, anc, getting at least some of the quietness back

@jeder I mean especially for overstimulated neurodivergent people I can understand the appeal.

But I am the kind of autistic person who becomes more overstimulated by the tiny imperfections caused by ANC than just actual noise.

@SuperDicq for me good anc is good enough to just not care, the 30€ kind of anc however, jesus fucking christ, these are just white noise generators and not anything else

@jeder I'm not talking about the aliexpress special white noise generators.

I've so far had the opportunity to try the Sony's WH-1000XM3 and WH-CH720N and one by Bose which I forgot the model name of. I prefer the sound quality all them with the ANC turned off.

@SuperDicq The XM3’s have really eh anc in my opinion, there’s a lot of white noise and noise still bleeds in like crazy. AirPods Pro do a much better job in my experience without white noise

I like just putting on headphones with ANC enabled for extra quietness when working

Can’t vouch for degradation of music quality but I’m also fairly hard of hearing ​:blobcatderpy:​
