Over the weekend, hackers targeted federated social networks like Mastodon to carry out ongoing spam attacks that were organized on Discord, and conducted using Discord applications.

@jeder You’d think reputable sites would know to properly state names and associations, cite, or at least be clear when this is currently a difficulty.

Either way, I won’t blame the journalist themselves for putting the story out like this, the proofreaders accepted this and they’re probably paid extra for first bite on the scoop. Just another day in reporting, get on your merry way. They’ll fix it via “updates” when they have more info. Because they had the early post, now they have the readers’ eyes.
