especially if you deal with an electrically-regulated standing desk

@jeder absolutely. Always. Regardless of the type of desk.

@jeder I don't know the specifics of your situation. What kinds of cables lead from where to where? How's the wall socket situation in spatial relation to the desk? How much is the difference between the lowest and highest the desk will go? What kinds of cable management thingies does the desk have built-in? How is the layout of the things on your desk?

@sanity so I have two laptops, two displays(with possibility of three), a kvm, a thinkpad usb hub, one of these hanging baseus usb hubs, a desktop usb charger, a mic, and a lamp
there's a power strip centrally mounted in the wall under the desk, range is something like 70-120 I think, with regard to thingies, top is barebones, although there's a trunk in which you can put tables in the centre under it
the layout is, complicated, as you can tell, especially that there are two laptops at all times
i guess I'll come back here with a proper when I am done with building the desk in few weeks lol

@jeder what comes to my mind is a power strip mounted to the desk. Ideally you would have some kind of cable duct on the underside of the tabletop where you can stow away all the excess cables such that only the minimum necessary amount of cable is on top of your desk. Then you only have one cable from the power strip to the wall socket. This cable has to be long enough for the desk to be able to move up and down without putting strain on the cable.
Does this make sense? Lmk if you have any questions.

@sanity ...right
that strip is IN the wall, why? don't ask me
:blobcatgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands:
oh and there's a shitton of various too long usb and display cables connecting everything with the displays or laptops or the hubs, but there's are less of an issue since everything is on the desk

@jeder in my semi-educated opinion, from an electrical point of view, it wouldn't make much of a difference if you get another power strip that you then plug into the one in the wall.
My train of thought is, the fewer cables dangle off of the desk, the tidier and easier to manage the cabling is going to be. In an ideal world, I'd have all cables in a cable duct that's mounted to the underside of the desk. From there, only what's necessary is lead to the top of the desk and only one cable dangles down to the wall socket.
