@ShadowJonathan calckey/firefish tried the rust rewrite but the way they did it meant that build times increased from 5 minutes to 50 minutes, with negligible improvements or additions to the code

@jeder i mean, upstream is improving. slowly and inconsistently but they are improving. hell, they have something resembling hot reload on the frontend and the files aren't screaming in pain when you run a linter.

they're also extremely unfocused and would rather prioritize reversi than post editing or authorized fetch, but they are getting there. you won't get that marginal improvement by hard forking unless you choose to do it yourself (and i'm extremely unsure if they have the manpower for that)
