I am happy to announce that this server now has backups (they might be inconsistent though, since I am backing up a live postgres filesystem).
Do other people also just backup the FS, or do you use the postgres native tools e.g. pg_dump?

@me i know some just create FS snapshots and store them offsite but i can't imagine that being space efficient

@jeder Hm ok. I don't know about the space requirements, currently the whole backup takes up just over 1 GB, but I don't know whether that's a lot and how much of this is from the DB (I am backing up basically all persistent storage of my server together). Maybe I'll reimplement backups with pg_dump later (it seems much cleaner), for now I just wanted to avoid having to deal with the associated k8s weirdness that would involve for me...

@jeder FYI this really turned out to be a horrible idea: after a month the backup already took up more than 100 GB, I am now also using pg_dump -Fc via a CronJob (It's even a fairly clean solution in the end, my worries about k8s weirdness were nonsense).
