by pirating adobe software, you're not "sticking it to the man" or hurting adobe at all. instead, you're becoming accustomed to software that you'll have to pay for after whatever exploit used to crack the software you use is patched. for example, if adobe software ever does become only available as a web app, how exactly are you going to pirate it when it's not even on your computer? become accustomed to the FOSS alternatives, even if they aren't as fully featured, you know they won't be suddenly taken from you in the future.

@jeder well, that's your choice, but if you keep feeding the beast, it grows, and the more hungry it gets

@mjdxp and the other choice is to use software that absolutely doesn't fit my needs and is very much anti-user friendly

@jeder @mjdxp Even if they aren't as fully featured they should still be at least similar to it contemporaries.

If a foss video editor works completely foreign to anything like adobe premiere or sony vegas then it's not a good alternative.

@Weeble @jeder it's still possible to learn a new workflow that could end up being more efficient than what you're used to, you just need to keep a good additude imo

@mjdxp @Weeble yeah i am not sure if darktable will be ever more efficient in any way than lightroom, or inkscape - illustrator

@mjdxp @jeder You don't need to re-invent the wheel. Especially for niche specific-use programs.

I dont pirate everything, but the stuff I do is specifically because the foss versions either dont have the features I need or they do it in the most backwards anti-user way possible.

@jame @mjdxp of course, skill issue is when you have to invest way more time to understand software in order to do the same thing

@jeder @mjdxp I would have to invest time in to understand the adobe workflow. I see no reason to do that to support a company who is purposefully screwing over creatives for the sake of profit, which by not using their products is fundamentally not the same thing. If you want to still support that company that is fine, but I'll be honest it's a bit odd to willingly support that.

@jeder @mjdxp You do what suits you. I love Inkscape and hate Adobe (the company) with a passion. I'd rather use emacs than anything Adobe make. But if it works for you, go for it.

About 15 years ago, I got tired of delousing my wife's computer every few months, and installed Ubuntu on it. She wanted to know how she could run Photoshop, so I said to have a look at GIMP, which she initially hated, but now she shows me how to do things in it! She eventually asked me to remove Windows entirely.
