blobcatshrug2 for personal files yes, for web was webp a long time the best codec you could use...
and jpeg xl wont be adopted for the web so i guess it wont have that reach

@hypha @Jain @jeder the jpeg xl people made a better jpeg encoder that outperforms webp in both speed and quality
use that where you don't need transparency, animation or colorspaces other than 8bpc YCbCr
