honestly I’m still not entirely sure what I want to host for myself to use long-term :/
like, GoToSocial is surprisingly easy to set up and maintain (as long as OS and package updates don’t decide to just casually fuck up everything, especially database software, as is with every software) but has very limited features (can’t import following lists, or even block and mute lists, no emoji reactions, no edits).
NETshrimp sounds nice on paper but I don’t know how much of a mess it is to maintain it (and its frontend isn’t complete yet).
Iceshrimp (the one based on Misskey/Firefish) is alright but it’s Misskey-based (means it has a fairly bloated frontend). at least it has a good Mastodon API meaning that you can just use other clients, unlike with other Misskey-based instances. :3
Akkoma has the good old issues of database rot and if you’re not careful, your instance might end like nanosocial 1 did.
Mastodon… no. I refuse to.
I feel like this instance will probably exist even longer than originally planned lol
