first impressions on the new ice 3 neo interior in first class, long post
new seats are more comfortable than the original 3neo seats from the first 16 sets (imo), they’re softer, the headrest is in a better position (this is a first impression though, so we’ll see how i feel in cologne)
the new interior design overall is a lot more mature than the blue colors that were in use previously. the ice 4 and original 3neo interiors seemed almost plasticky since there was no wooden panelling anywhere, bringing the wood back on the seat is a very nice touch. the colours work well, the fabric and stitching are nice, the metal is shiny.
the seatback table arrangement is fancy and feels very substantial and sturdy. nice materials and stimmy clicky things.
extremely minor but huge point for me: the footrest folds away far enough so that my legs don’t have to touch it, this is extremely annoying on some of the newer ICEs (and yes, my legs really are that long that this becomes annoying, even in first class).
combined with the very smooth ride of these new trains it’s a great environment to spend a few hours in.
a few minor gripes: the window alignment is a problem, a lot of seats just get a bit of wall between windows. i understand if this happens during a refurbishment but since this is the original interior of these trains it’s kind of sad to see.
the coathook in the back of the seat is a nice design feature but i don’t see anyone using it since there are hooks above the windows that don’t cover the whole tray table assembly.
and wireless charging would have been nice to have, maybe above the power outlets on the single seats in first class.
