thoughts on "default reactions"
in pretty much every fedi server, the "like"/favorite/star button is used as a mindless, low-noise acknowledgement for postsreactions on the other hand are more expressive, but inherently noisier
I don't strictly mind the fact that misskey only has reactions and no star button, because that actually forces you to pick a reaction that makes sense
sharkey subverts all expectations by effectively making its "like" button a shortcut for a configurable reaction
the problem is that, naturally, people are using it just like the star button in every other server
this means that it essentially removes the need to think and pick an appropriate emote to react with
you can pretty much always tell when someone is using default reactions because they're using a particular emote more than any other, and it's often nonsensical or even inappropriate in context
and this is an active nuisance to literally everyone, between noise fatigue and the absurdity of reacting with fucking tom scott everywhere
