re: nixos @jeder sadly, i haven't yet found a distro/system that's - for me - less annoying to use long-term.

then again, my distro of choice was gentoo for 15 years, so my choices/preferences might not exactly be "typical"

re: nixos @ar yeah i usually just go with arch on desktops/laptops, when hardware and usecase allows it, but if shit hits the fan (so, unstable "stable" kernel which was a way too common occurance for me during 6.x era [surprisingly not an arch moment]) i just go to windows blobcatshrug
and fedora for server stuff
so i am "normal" i suppose

re: nixos @jeder "shit hitting the fan" is the number reason why i don't want to use typical systems relying on non-atomic in-place upgrades. i've had windows/*bsds/various linux distros fail for me because of that. a scar i don't want to reopen. fs snapshotting kinda sorta solves that, but comes with its own can of worms i'd rather avoid, especially around various forms of databases.

re: nixos @jeder as for kernel bugs on linux… i'm lucky with my hw choices, i guess, as those either get fixed quickly, or i find good enough workarounds.
