@puppygirlhornypost2 the Carola Bridge in Dresden - it collapsed yesterday (on 2024-09-11 at ~03:00 local time) due to it being corroded to a point where part of the C part (tram tracks and pedestrian path) collapsed into itself.
luckily, no one got hurt and the tram driver of the last tram that went over it at 2:51 had a ton of luck.
@awoo Damn, that sucks. I'm glad nobody was hurt, do we know why it was not receiving regular inspections to prevent corrosion? was it the paint (usually paint on the I-Beams and various other parts helps to keep rust out) chipping away?
@puppygirlhornypost2 It was - the local gov't pushed that plan to take care of the bridge properly to 2025 though, and the mayor (someone from the FDP of course-) denied an emergency maintenance thing wanted by some local party (Freie Wähler).
they're now getting the parts that did collapse off the river and are planning a brand new construction of the bridge, meaning that the bridge overall won't be usable for another 5 to 10 years, most likely (knowing how slow Germany is in terms of bureaucracy).
@awoo they're also going to be hiring their buddies to be making the new bridge and making a bunch of profit off of it in the process right or is that just an American thing
