@linus i won’t! XMPP isn’t the cure for all the wrongs in the world, but I also just like seeing the good parts of it. For instance, when it works, i’ve seen some really nice xmpp clients that appeal to my ideas about what an IM should look like, while matrix ones are all almost universally bad (IMHO). After the last element riot update I switched to nheko, and I like how lightweight it is compared to riot, but it still isn’t where i would like it to be with UI

@linus @domi the only thing i mildly miss, are custom emojis, and maybe reactions.

but yeah, different people have different needs from their IM clients

@ar @linus i still don’t have custom emojis on matrix. i just memorized various shortcodes from here and both me and the other side just imagine the emote

@domi @linus i switched away from element specifically because of custom emoji reactions and that bit me in the ass today, as you've seen elsewhere
