one thing I do not understand on here is the rise of "ping the booster" behaviour
why is it so prevalent

seems like it has gotten worse during last year, previously the only erroneous pings I'd get were from friendica/hubzilla users, which says a lot

(this is also why I absolutely despise both of these wares, and would happily defederate on user agent basis)

@jeder I suspect it's that some clients will automatically ping the booster and people don't notice

@jeder it would be great if it were restricted to only getting notifs when people you follow fav or boost something you've boosted

but this is literally the exact opposite of that, the worst of all possible worlds
