okay so i prioritised getting cdparanoia to work
none of my machines had a supported linux distro installed bare metal
i fired up the fucking haiku laptop to not deal with windows
haiku doesn't detect this cd drive
i also checked the workstation imac, because sure, why not, it even has an internal cd drive
no frontends compatible with this macos version
i installed a supported distro on a spare laptop
the rip returned with random (audible and annoying) pops, despite no errors

and here i am, on my windows 11 gaming pc, with some sketchy german software for ripping cd audio which surprisingly worked just fine
