@makiki@makiki I heard the "it's for security" is kinda bullshit and in reality this is more about missing protocols, where for a lot of stuff there is ongoing work on either agreeing how to handle something or actually implementing it in Wayland compositors (afaik wayland compositors are like if you combined X server, a window manager and a X compositor)
@lunareclipse@makiki so the idea behind clipboard and screen capture having, well, issues is not because of a somewhat weird threat model but just undercooked interoperability between stuff and having to figure out a standard on top of a standard?
@makiki@makiki yeah, the Actual Standards are moving very slowly and so people who don't wanna wait are implementing draft standards in compositors and then programs only support some random subset of them and it can get messy. But we are slowly getting more Actual Standards that are fleshed out enough to do stuff so hopefully in 5-10 years it will get all the stuff it's missing compared to X11
@lunareclipse@makiki@makiki there are also ongoing changes that should lower the risk of a good protocol getting fucked to the oblivion by some cunt (weston :)))))))) ) NACKing it for no apparent reason alongside with reducing the bullshit around the time it needs to be approved
