Idle pondering: in UK English, trains depart from a numbered “platform”; if one physical platform has tracks on either side, or gets two platform numbers. Most US train stations instead use numbered “tracks”, as do French (“voie”), German (“Gleis”), and Italian (“binaro”).
Do any other languages use an equivalent of “platform” for this concept?
