hmm I could just get multiple of the "0.8€/mo for 1 year for new customers" VPSes from OVH to fuck around with different linux distros

Like, I'm curious how I would like AlmaLinux, Fedora Server, and Debian Stable for deploying stuff.

Realistically I wouldn't do too much with those, but perhaps I could use them to test if I can rebuild services from my backups or such.

And it would be a cool learning experience.

@lunareclipse alma linux is very much an rhel-minded thing so that might be very annoying if you come from quite lax distros
fedora server is uh, that but less annoying (and selinux might be annoying but like, alma linux also does that)
and debian is debian
i am very much a fedora enjoyer because it's not annoying

@jeder fedora seems like it would be about the same amount of maintenance as NixOS with the release cycle and that sounds nice tbh.

@lunareclipse like, yeah, for me it's like, just updating every once in a while, and maybe distro upgrade when i remember to do it

@lunareclipse especially since like, you could easily do distro upgrade just once a year since they support skipping one version

@jeder Nix is the only comparison I have from experience neofox_woozy

But yeah on Nix basically nothing breaks ever if you just stay on one channel, and they have upgrade guides for upgrading channels.

The declarative configuration also has some separate versioning to it that changes defaults for options to relieve some of the burden of switching channels IIUC.

But yeah, anyway Fedora looks neat!
