@insane@chjara@jeder USB-C-as-USB is nice (and I just saw that they require cables to be able to carry at least 60W now; that part is super lovely btw), it's the alternate modes that is being a gigantic mess imho
@koakuma@insane@jeder USB-PD can do up to 240 W at 48 V which is kind of unhinged for such a small connector too but i doubt much of anything will use this and yeah it's way too many pins but they can be ignored for just using it as a power cable/USB2 device which is the main point of it being an universal connector
hot take: those shitting on USB-C+PD are mostly apple shills and they miss their stupid proprietary&usb 2.0 slow lightning also "i had usb A charger and I have now usb-c-to-c cable1" are stupid, because you probably have usb-a-to-c cable already xD
@jeder afaik the mandate isnt future proof. it will take the eu to long to react to a sudden change (say 3-5years) regarding connectors.
another issue: it is less noob friendly to repair. a normal round connector can be soldered by a beginner, a usb c connector cant
i think other connectors are more stable and have certain advantage in some areas, but overall usb-c is neat and im glad the eu mandated it. no mandate might be worse long term
