warsaw is fun how you have like, this massive spread out modern city with huge streets and modern buildings and then you walk around and go into some alley and suddenly there is nothing and noone and the vibe completely changes and it looks like

@q66 i also love how around central station, the serious business towers are disrupted by apartment buildings. it feels a lot less gentrified that way.

@tammeow for sure, the old parts are a lot more interesting

they even have vegetation...

it's kinda funny how people in central europe always talk badly about the so called commie blocks because of their uniformity, but in comparison to some of the modern stuff it sure does not feel that way anymore

@q66 @tammeow ngl our problem with commie blocks is that when there's bad weather, it all suddenly turns incredibly depressing, grey and messy
but otherwise they are a way better addition to the environment than any of that glassy skyscraper shit that stands out even more than them

@jeder @q66 i like that around Warszawa Centralna, they are mixed and it is not like a huge business district that sucks and nobody real lives in.

@tammeow @q66 technically yes, but like, i have an uncle in warsaw which lives there for a very long time, and you can hear like, their disdain for Śródmieście/area around Centralna and Yeah it does feel quite fake

incoherent infodump @q66 @tammeow like, I genuinely love exploring these neighborhoods, and some of them are very different from the rest of the blocks, like Sedesowce of Wrocław, Katowice's Superjednostka, or Falowiec in Gdańsk
and ngl you can notice quite quickly that every hood in one city also differs in how its blocks are made, one hood will be full of four-floor tall blocks with lots of enclosed balconies, other will have mostly eleven-floor tall blocks without balconies like that, and other one will be similar to the first hood but with one distinct feature of last floor being a pseudo-roof with balconies inside, and that pseudo-roof having different color depending on which part of the hood you are in

@q66 @jeder it is not that bad. Knielingen Nord is the 2010s suburbified version of depression. but it is car shaped as in there are few shops nearby since u do groceries by car.
