happy sunday from a very snowy warszawa, fediverse!
since i have a spare day of Interrail and nothing else to do, i have planned myself a little trip around poland, which should hopefully include a trip on every EMU that pkpic operates.
we’re starting with an EIP down to Katowice ^^

ED250-007
my first time on an EIP service! :3 (@ EIC 5402 ➜ Katowice)
The very nosey snout of an ED250 EMU
This is unit number ED250-007
PKPIC still hangs paper signs in the doors of these trains, even though they have external displays!
A view of the first class wagon 1, in a 2+1 seat configuration. There are screens dotted throughout the car, the floor is carpeted and the interior looks comfortable.

even though these trains are specced for 250km/h, the 200km/h on the CMK line is the highest speed this train can reach with Polands current rail infrastructure. futureproofing, i suppose…

there’s something special about train rides through the snow - the contrast between the icy outside and cozy inside makes them even more fun to me ^^

arrived in katowice!
the EIP is a nice offering in my opinion, PKP is clearly trying to appeal to business / premium travellers with this train. the free wifi, the very quiet interior and complimentary drinks / even snacks in first class are nice amenities and the trains feel significantly more comfortable than the coupled sets used on IC/EIC services. upgrading to first class isn’t particularly worth it though, the legroom is the same and i actually find the slightly pre-reclined seats less comfortable than the more upright seats in second class. EIP fares also tend to be very expensive compared to regular IC/EIC, and i wouldn’t pay the extra pln100 if i didn’t have to get work done

next on my tour of pkpic EMUs:

ED74-014
the oddest EMU of the bunch for sure, there are only 14 of these in service! this is an IC service operated by a single 4-car unit which feels like Pesa’s reply to a FLIRT1
these trains have a lot of history, including a lawsuit, failed sale and reluctant refurbishment (@ IC 42104 ➜ Zawiercie)

this thing is rattly as hell and really feels like a regional train, but the modernisation is really nice
a very wonky looking ED74 EMU is covered in snow
a view of the side of the train with its small windows
a view of a second class car with its narrow aisle and blue seats
the seats in first class have two power sockets and USB ports

@Lili @mae i mean, PKP Intercity isn't known for having greatest interfaces, i do like Dart one the most of all of them, but i don't have a photo of it

@mae @lis my favourite is KD, they have something reminiscent of Dart PIS in their 45WEs but otherwise they use either three of these in combination with very nice orange LED displays
PIS used in SA139s/Links of KD, it has white background, showing current station and time at the top, and the rest shows the entirety of the route
PIS used in some 48WEc/Elf 2s, it's a long display and everything is very rounded, on the left it shows line number and time, shows previous and next stations alongside arrival and departure times inside of circles, on a separate slide it shows current station
PIS used in most KD vehicles, it's similar to one in 48WEc but it's more squarish and less colorful and arrival/departure times are showed in a table instead
