one thing thats rather ironic is that utc follows summer time but local timezones consider winter-time the default with summer being the adjusted one

so central european time is UTC+2 even though its adjacent to utc+0

@coolbean yeah, during WWII France, Netherlands, and Spain adjusted their timezones to reflect their fealty to the Nazis, and make logistics easier.

This stuck after WWII ended. This is even more extreme in the case of Spain since they’re so far West, but for France and Netherlands is pretty bad too. Before WWII France and Spain observed UTC, and Netherlands did UTC+38 min lol. So in summer these countries are double out of whack.

It would make more sense to have these countries switch to the same timezone as Portugal and the UK.
