A YouTuber I've been watching for over a decade said he'll drop his channel soon and only keep streaming on Twitch, because Let's Plays are a dying genre. Another real-time medium that requires me to be there at a specific time or watch the VOD before Twitch deletes it.
What's ironic is that services like Netflix got big because people loved the fact that they could watch anything whenever they wanted. Why does the internet go in the opposite direction otherwise? It's the exact same deal.

@volpi the answer I think is just that twitch pays way better than YouTube

@erincandescent @volpi and probably it's easier for them to do all the live stream stuff instead
however not having a vod channel is kinda weird

My understanding also is that YouTube revenue has declined over time while Twitch has gone up, incentivising people to switch also. I think part of it is just that streams being interactive makes people feel closer and makes it much more likely you'll get people subscribing and so on
