@ww@jeder@piggo the funny bit in Czech is that there’s the formal “high Czech” zemřel or zemřela (masc or fem), but if you were talking about someone close, you’re likely to say less formal “umřel/a”, which would not make the newsroom language standard
@ww@jeder@piggo it’s more of a low and high Czech distinction, generally people know both, it’s just different words or even just words pronounced differently, and you use either based on the environment
I mean, surely there’s a lot of general non-slang words for death, but I’d assume that to be the case for most languages
