i didn’t understand the obsession that has with naming its trains until i saw the absurd way they are numbered. like i’ll remember a 3-digit number if it’s on my ticket, but if it’s 3 different numbers, one of it inexplicably consisting of 5 digits, you’d better pick some kind of name for it or else i’ll stare at the departure board for 5 minutes before deciphering it
@mae the five digit number is there because PKP PLK knows better and they shove it on international trains of any kind, regional trains to Görlitz also get it outside of the 4 digit number
@mae also, technically it's two numbers, EIC 40 and EIC 17010/1 the 0/1 is there because numbers change depending whether the train is getting closer to the 0.0km of the line or not, and since in case of lines to Warsaw, the 0.0km is Warszawa Centralna, and trains usually end at Zachodnia or Wschodnia, you get this
@mae and if you wonder whether this is a huge source of confused people not knowing if their tickets are valid on this train oh yes ohhhh yes there's a known bug that nobody cares to fix, where displays will show you number 61101, but you have 61100 on the ticket and people freak out despite everything else matching
