like that doesn't even include the cost of like, insurance, toll roads, and everything else
and for comparison, all my interrail passes so far have cost me approx. 2700 EUR (+~500 EUR for seat reservations on sleepers) for the same amount of travelling, and i didn't have to be stuck in a small metal box with no toilet nor snack bar
@ptrc@jeder but also adult people more often have families. If it's a couple traveling, car expenses stay the same but interrail increases by 2x. If they also have a kid... etc. Also with small kids you cannot really afford some kinds of connections. And if it's a family traveling, this also often means luggage, and trains are not very luggage-friendly when you have a lot of interchanges.
