Can I have "throwing shit into fan" as a part of my job description?

So, you know, there is this old way of copy/pasting text in Xserver. Or to say that more precisely select/pasting. You draw the mouse holding the left button to select the text, then you paste it by clicking the middle button.

I do not know, if accidentally or purposefully, but they have disabled it at work. Which is a minor annoyance, because I can switch to keyboard shortcuts, or right clicking to get the context menu, and select from there.

But there are some applications (namely: gitk) not providing any shortcut for pasting. So, good luck manually typing the hash id from, for example, the git log output, to the search window in gitk. Yeah, I know, you can just type the beginning of the string, as long as it's unambiguous. But still.

Edit: self correct - gitk handles Ctrl-V key binding. So, at least it works.

So, I've just submitted a ticket to IT asking for that functionality to be restored.

Number of days since I've made an idiot of myself publicly: 0.

Blame is when blame is due.

Got the reply from IT. The root cause determined by them was wrong, but the answer provided was insightful enough to keep me thinking.

Long story short: the middle button in my mouse doesn't work 😅

Good afternoon, I'm Agnes, and I have over 30 years of experience with computers.
