Well, it’s sad news.

The Yascar has finally outlived it’s usefulness. The annual vehicle inspection (the “MOT test”) found serious faults in the steering and suspension, meaning that it is now unsafe to drive and therefore illegal to operate.

It’s been around for over 20 years, so now is it’s time to go to the great scrapyard in the sky.

I could fix it, but the mechanic says that might keep it going until next year, but he wouldn’t bet on it. It’s better to put that money towards buying a replacement Yascar.

guess city driving is rough? 20 years is like half a vehicle's lifespan IME

@izzy @yassie_j my dad with 2009 kia carens is already talking about potentially having problems passing MOT so i think that newer cars are just shit

@jeder @yassie_j possible, I don't think I'd go newer than like 2005 for arcane taste reasons

my 05 swift has some issues but they're all just like, expected maintenance for a 20 year old car

@yassie_j @jeder I was originally aiming for a '94 Mazda 323 but this one kinda fell into my lap and ... it's a better car in the end akko_giggle
it has a 4/5 safety rating rather than "the crash test dummy refused to get in the car" and the engine is more powerful despite being smaller
