@jeder@freeplay AOSP default apps are almost abandoned by Google, in term of security it's a risk. It would be better to rely on Gapps for security (like they already do by integrating the playstore) or use the same standards apps as others ROM use for better functionality, privacy and security.
Because for now what's append is that people replace them with random apps they find on Google when the gap between the Gapps and the GOS solution is too big

GrapheneOS will be using the standard Android theme system. We'll be overhauling our apps to follow the modern guidelines and either overhauling or replacing each of the legacy AOSP apps.
