if you think about it… keyboards as we know them have been around for circa 150 years*. Whoever came up with the idea didn’t live long enough to see people get fast with them**, but it’s bonkers just how fast some of us can express ourselves with a device which has no natural analog.
if you’re good at touch-typing you don’t even have to think about pressing particular keys, your brain just does it for you as you think up the sentence! it’s kinda awesome how well humans adapt
(* correct me if I’m wrong, I’m only counting typewriters)
(** typing faster than 30-40WPM only really became possible with electric typewriters, but it wouldn’t be until the teletype that you could trivially correct your typos…)
