One very visible effect is optimizeLegibility, which enables ligatures (ff, fi, fl, etc.) in text smaller than 20px for some fonts (for example, Microsoft's Calibri, Candara, Constantia, and Corbel, or the DejaVu font family).
i don't think enabling ligatures is optimizing for legibility but okay

@novenary rival 5 is like a middle ground since it has 4 buttons on the left which are pretty cleverly added to the base mouse tbh, like, there's a long button above mouse4 and mouse5 which you can push up, and there's also some less comfortably chosen button at the fingertip
