@jeder no, i dont think so, flash is tiny nowadays

i dont think i've even seen a "real" SD card in years, it's always a microsd with adapter

@privateger not that i can't just get microsd + adapter, but i was surprised that it came with a full size sd card, instead of that

to answer your question seriously, I’ve had the best luck with SanDisk Extreme cards. My reliability issues so far have been the readers failing on me.

I think I’ve gone through four USB3 SD card readers at this point

As store brands go, sure, but they presumably don't actually manufacture these things. Not sure who the ODM would be.

I'd guess the Sandisk Extreme card in my DSLR isn't quite like this, though I haven't taken one apart.

Even if the silicon dies were identical to microSD cards, I'd expect the big name manufacturers not to package them this way, with the plastic casing for a microSD card inside that for an SD card.

This would probably only be done by a company that does not themselves manufacture microSD cards.

Doesn't matter though; reliability should be comparable at that tier of product.

As far as bleeding-edge performance stuff goes, it's always a crapshoot, and the additional space for a full-sized card often affords more storage or higher speed memory.

But effectively, if you buy say, a 128gb A3 microsd and full size SD, there shouldn't be much difference at this point in the product development cycle.

@MagicLike @ShadowJonathan @jeder @shyra worst part is that it's all in raid zero. if one sd card fails all your data is gone.
and it's more expensive than a real ssd. even a cacheless one is better.

@jeder I would guess no, I would think manufacturers just have one supply chain for both microSD and full-size SD. Probably cheaper to put the same chips in different containers.

However I do prefer full-size because whenever I drop a microSD card it seems to disappear from our plane of existence.
