kind of got fed up with 1366x768 and the x230 is fine but just all broken, 2 hours of battery and could be a bit faster. I'm looking at T495

@piggo battery life is all over the place (i had like 5h max when it was new), and the battery itself is screwed into place, which is a downgrade over t480, hell even t490 is better than t495 because it's on intel, zen+ APUs used in t495 are just absolute horse shit

@jeder is it crashy on Linux or bad performance or what's the deal with amd? I don't care for games

@piggo it's a mix of unsupported hardware (yes, ryzen 3000 APUs are already considered unsupported by amd and so like, amdvlk 2024.q1+ will not work if you want to do games, and radv is just shit ime), and for example, linux 6.5 and iirc 6.2? did crash because of a fuckup regarding handling of the Better Than Intel Offerings™ Vega 8, Linux 6.6 does work okay, idk about 6.7 because i already went to LTS after 6.5 fuckup

@piggo and from what i recall, zen+ APUs have just plain worse perf than intel in t480 and t490

@jeder @piggo We have a T480 and a Ryzen 2500U laptop

Coffee Lake seems to behave better than Zen in laptops

Less hot and faster, but probably a slightly weaker GPU

@natty @piggo like, i really wouldn't go amd just because you spite intel, you are trading a Just Working™ laptop for a hot and slow mess with 50% chance of constant crashes after a major kernel update

@natty @piggo just try linux 6.5 on that zen laptop if it uses vega igpu, you'll get what i mean in first two hours of using it

@natty @piggo like, on a good day of using 6.5, i had maybe 2 crashes, on bad day i had like 10, with 5 of them happening just before display manager stage

@jeder @natty @piggo hmm I can only remember like a few random crashes in the entire lifespan of my laptop (it has a ryzen 7 4800H) which is about the same amount I've experienced with other OSes on different hardware before :neofox_melt:
